This is my favorite picture of me. Old though it is (over 30 years, to be honest), it sums up the parts of me that make me want to write for children. With parents out of town, and many teenage friends partying all around me, I spent an entire night rocking my honorary niece to sleep with my sister's kitten on my lap.

Ever since I was a just a kid myself, I found that I was good with children. I could make them laugh and get them to chase me around, and I loved every minute of it. With a large extended family, I became a go-to babysitter for dozens of younger cousins, and then was referred out to larger circles.

I would soon combine that knack for caring for kids with my love of theater and become a drama, song and dance teacher for Kidstock, Inc (where everybody shines!), a drama program for children in the Bay Area.

It would be a few years later that I started to channel all of these joys and experiences into the idea of writing stories for children.

The Quiet Man

This is a story about kindness, thoughtfulness, and taking care of others by taking action. It is also a lesson about how actions speak louder than words, and how, in a noisy world, a person does not have to be louder than everyone around them to be heard and understood.
