The Quiet Man has been a bedtime staple in my house. My 3 year old has memorized most, if not all of the book to the point where she finishes almost every sentence! Her favorite part to read is “He ran over and asked, Can I help you with that?” she eagerly waits for that part so she can beat me to it. She loves to see that The Quiet Man is there to help the little old lady. For the length of the book my newly 3 year old manages to stay engaged due to the rhyming words and pictures that we can look at and talk about. Highly recommended adding “The Quiet Man” to your library. Nice pictures, meaningful message and a great way to introduce what it means to be kind to others. 10/10 recommend!

This book delighted me from beginning to end... at which point I had a lump in my throat. It is sweet, it is tender and it teaches a lovely lesson about kindness, without hitting you over the head with it. Although children of all ages will get a lot out of it - much more than they realize, actually - I think ages 5 through about 8 will love the illustrations, and thoroughly enjoy everything about this delightfully sweet story.

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Quiet Man" by Khalo Stephen.]

                                   5 out of 5 stars

The Quiet Man by Khalo Stephen is a children’s story about how actions speak louder than words, and how hard it often is to be heard in a world where everyone seems to be shouting.

The story is told in rhyme, and each rhyme was very smooth and fitting to the paired word; it would be very appealing for young children to listen to. Although some of the words might be a little complicated for younger children, the author mentioned the intention of introducing harder words to kids and having a parent there to help them understand what they mean. I think this intent is a great way to teach children new words.

I loved the illustrations. Each page looked hand-drawn or painted, and it was very eye-catching and pleasing to look at. There was a picture after every page of rhymes, and it matched what was going on in that moment of the story.

The main character, The Quiet Man, helps an old lady that everyone seems to ignore, and the lesson that is shared at the end is a great lesson for children to learn. I love what the author wrote at the beginning of the book: “This story is how one mind can be heard, How actions often speak louder than words, How listening well, and thoughtful action, Can resolve any issue, to full satisfaction” (page 13).

This would be a perfect short picture book to read to children both in the home and at school, so I would recommend it to parents and elementary teachers. While it’s targeted at kids around age five and six, I think it would benefit kids from that age up through sixth grade.

I found no grammatical errors in this book, which speaks to the author’s fantastic job of editing. There was nothing I would change about this book, and I highly recommend it. Because I found nothing to criticize, I would give The Quiet Man a solid 5 out of 5 stars.
